THE DIFFERENCE

No awkward bot joining your call.

Most meeting tools send a bot into the room — everyone sees “Notetaker has joined,” and your audio takes a round-trip through someone else’s cloud. MeetingRecorder records locally from your Mac. Nothing joins the call, and nothing is uploaded unless you ask for a transcript.

FEATURES

Everything you need to keep a record — and nothing you don’t.

No bots in your calls

Records straight from your Mac’s audio. Nothing joins the meeting, so no “Notetaker has joined” and nobody in the participant list.

Recordings stay local

Recordings, transcripts and summaries are saved in a folder on your Mac. No account, no sign-in, no upload by default.

Works with every app

Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, Slack, FaceTime, a webinar, a video — if it plays sound on your Mac, MeetingRecorder captures it.

Transcripts & AI summaries

One click turns a recording into a searchable transcript with speaker labels, plus a short summary with action items. This step is optional and runs in the cloud.

Lives in your menu bar

A tiny native app — no dock clutter, no Electron. Start with one click, and a quiet toast offers to record when a call begins.

Free to use

The full record → transcribe → summarize flow is free, with 20 transcriptions a month. Pro removes the limit for $10 a month.

HOW IT WORKS

From a live call to notes in three steps.

01

Click record

Hit record from the menu bar, or just accept the corner toast that pops up when a call starts. No setup per meeting.

02

It captures both sides

Your microphone and the meeting’s system audio are recorded together — or as separate tracks if you prefer.

03

Get transcript & summary

One click produces a transcript and a summary with action items. Copy, share, or leave it all on your Mac.

PRIVACY BY DEFAULT

Your recordings stay
on your Mac.

Recording needs no cloud at all. Files are written to a folder you control. Transcription is the only step that uses the internet, and you decide if and when to use it.

Stored in a folder you choose
Open it in Finder anytime. Move, back up or delete recordings like any other file.
No account, no sign-in
Install and record. There’s nothing to register and no profile to create.
Transcription is opt-in
Audio leaves your Mac only when you ask for a transcript: it is sent to a cloud transcription service, and the text is saved back to your Mac. You can turn this off entirely.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Does it work with Zoom, Teams and Google Meet?
Yes. MeetingRecorder records your microphone and your Mac’s system audio, so it captures anything that plays sound — Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Slack huddles, FaceTime, WhatsApp and Discord calls, webinars, even a video in your browser.
Do other participants know they’re being recorded?
No bot joins the meeting, so nothing shows up in the participant list. That also means recording is your responsibility — always get consent when the law or your organization requires it.
Where are my recordings stored?
In a folder on your Mac that you choose. Recordings, transcripts and summaries are saved there — there’s no account and no upload by default. Audio leaves your Mac only when you ask for a transcript. You can open the folder in Finder anytime.
Is transcription done on my Mac?
No. Recording is local and works offline. Transcription and summaries are optional and run in the cloud: when you click Transcribe, the audio is sent to a transcription service and the transcript is saved back to the folder on your Mac. If you never click Transcribe, nothing is uploaded.
Does it need an account or an internet connection?
No account. Recording works entirely offline. The only step that uses the internet is AI transcription — and that’s opt-in, so you’re in control.
What are the system requirements?
macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later, on an Apple Silicon Mac. The app is about 4 MB and lives in your menu bar.
Is this the same app as other tools called Meeting Recorder?
No. Several Mac apps and open-source projects have similar names. This one is MeetingRecorder from meetingsrecorder.com: a native menu-bar app made by Alex Mishin. You install it from this site or with Homebrew (brew install --cask meetingrecorder). It is not in the Mac App Store.
Is it really free?
Yes. Unlimited local recording plus 20 AI transcriptions and summaries a month are free. Pro, for people who transcribe a lot, costs $10 a month or $84 a year and removes the monthly limit. The core stays free.
Can I record a meeting on my Mac?
Yes — the catch on macOS 15 and 26 is that the built-in screen recorder records only your microphone, so a call captured that way has your voice and silence where the other people should be. macOS 27 can include system audio, but it gives you a screen video with no transcript. MeetingRecorder records your microphone and system audio together and saves an audio file to a folder on your Mac.
Does Mac have a built-in recorder?
Yes — QuickTime Player and the ⌘⇧5 screen recorder ship with macOS and are free. On macOS 15 and 26 they capture only your mic, which is why a Zoom or Teams call recorded that way is missing everyone else. macOS 27 added an Include System Audio option to ⌘⇧5; it records a screen video, with no audio file, transcript or summary. That’s the gap a dedicated meeting recorder fills.
How can I record a call on my Mac?
Start it from the menu bar before or during the call. MeetingRecorder captures your mic and the call audio together — as one mix or separate tracks — with no bot joining and no host permission needed, then saves an M4A locally and gives you a transcript in one click.
